Steep Discounts This is the perfect resting place for my 7lb kitty. Losing a pet is devastating. Having them home with you again helps to heal. I wanted a proper urn that held a photo and looked like it belonged in the home my little guy shared with us.This looked like a solid frame with a locking back which is why I ordered it. Its perfect. My cats remains came in a sealed tied bag inside a velvet pouch. This opening fit the pouch exactly with no excess room. It comes with a plasic bag and tie you can use if for some reason your ashes didn't . As I said mine did so I discarded the one I received with the urn.I chose to use it lenghtwise so it could sit in our family room inconspicuously as a nice solid photo frame. Urns sometimes weird people out and I didn't like the idea of having anything pottery or traditional looking. This item is made of mdf so when you open the back it smells like a cedar chest almost. I used an old shirt to wipe it out before placing the ashes inside since there was a little residue. The back area is carved out and slides into a grove so your ashes will be secure. There is a brass screw that locks it shut. Dont over tighten like anything woid so you don't strip the hole. Once you feel a little resistance, stop screwing. It's a Phillips screw. One sealed if it fell or was knocked of from a table, mantle, etc you can be assured the remains safe. The photo area is a plastic area, not glass. THERE IS FILM ON THE PLASTIC. 2 PIECES, SO IT'S NOT FROSTED. See my pics, you must remove it from both sides, then you photo will be crystal clear and viewed properly.Overall, glad to own this. See pictures for some size comparisons. Photo I croped to 3.25 by 2.1 when used lengthwise.
My wife and I suddenly lost our sweet 8 year old cat, Princess. It was heartbreaking for us, and we needed something to memorialize her, as she was always with us through some tough years. The grief of losing a pet is difficult to overcome, but this urn helped give us closure. This Urn was the perfect size for her cremated remains (11lbs while living), and the ashes are secured inside the urn, so even in the event of an earthquake, or mishandling I know the ashes will be kept safely inside the box.Princess is no longer with us, but her early remains are now safely on a shelf where we can easily remember an amazing creature.RIP Princess.
I ended up giving this product 5 stars because I do like the way it looks. I really wanted a black or very dark colored urn but could not find much. This one does have a nice black finish on it. I like the large photo opening, the fact that the photo can be easily changed, and the fact that the urn can stand in either a vertical "portrait" position or horizontally in a "landscape" position. However, there are a few reasons that caused me to consider a 4 star rating instead. This 85 cubic inch urn would NEVER hold ALL the remains for a dog of that size. My Maddie was a 55 pound Boxer/Sharpei cross. Her remains in the plastic bag from the vet and then in the plastic bag that came with the urn (so double bagged) just barely, and not easily, fit in this urn. Also, the little screw that holds the sliding panel on the back of the urn would not tighten all the way. Luckily, the screw does not slide out and the door does stay on. Finally, the clear plastic cover that slides into the photo opening came deeply scratched. They were deep enough for me to feel them as well as see them. This was not an issue for me though, because I was already aware from reading other reviews that the photo cover was plastic and I purchased the urn with the full intent of replacing it with glass. I also intended to have Maddie's name engraved on the urn, but was told at the engravers they could not work with that type of wood due to possible damage during the engraving process. Instead, they engraved a metal name plate that adhered to the front of the urn and looks very nice. Keep in mind that personalized engraving is not exactly cheap and should be factored in if you're shopping on a budget like me. In the end all of the potential problems with this product; the size, the stripped screw, the scratched photo cover, and engraving issue did not end of being deal breakers for me, but they could be for others. But, after I added the engraved name plate and the glass for the photo, this urn looks very nice and I am finally happy with it. I guess it is another example of buyer beware. Do your research and expect to get what you pay for. I spent a great deal of time on the internet shopping for an urn and this one was the closest I found to what I wanted and at a very reasonable price. One last tip: I just used the glass out of a cheap 4 x 6 picture frame to replace the plastic photo cover. I did need to cut it (and the photo) down a little on one end to allow the wood insert that goes behind the photo to slide in all the way. I hope this info helps!I really like this photo urn. It seems well made and well designed. I like the black satin finish. I like that you can change out the photos while leaving the other section secure and I like that you can choose between using a picture in portrait or landscape position. My Riley was 55 lbs and his ashes fit nicely in this box and I had room to put his paw print, which wasn't a clay paw print, it was more of a plastic container with his paw print inside, but that fit along with his ashes, his collar, a tuft of his fur, his cremation certificate, a couple of cards that I received as well as some dried flowers. It's a very tight fit with all of that, but it fits and I wanted everything together. If all of that didn't fit, I would have had to get the larger one, but thankfully it does. My urn arrived well packaged and in pristine condition. It looks nice on my bookshelf and I like it even better than one of the rotating ones that I tried and had to send back. I am planning on getting an engraved plate that I will just put on the back of the urn. The price was also very affordable and now by boy is at rest, so I am happy with my purchase.
